We did both the cover and layout for this popular history book. It was such a fun book project and we’d like to think we’d be good to have in a pub quiz after this one. Flying Leaf worked closely with Hunkydory Publishing from concept to finished book.

Pirates book designed by Flying Leaf

We were very excited about this project because we’re mad about pirates naturally. Pirates of the Seven Seas is the UK edition, published by the AA and World Atlas of Pirates is the US edition, published by Lyons Press. This book project was expertly managed by Hunkydory Publishing, written by Angus Konstam, wonderfully illustrated by Brian Delf and the hard slog of the inside layout work was done by Kelly Levey.

All the inside pages stayed the same for both books. You can buy the book on Amazon.

Hunkydory Publishing website & branding by Flying Leaf

Another week, another branding project and website.

The brand new website, hunkydorypublishing.com, showcases Hunkydory’s impressive portfolio of books and magazines.

Of course, we designed the logo as well as the site itself (which is strictly beta at the moment – we needed to get it live ahead of this week’s London Book Fair). The logo was designed to reflect Hunkydory’s specialism in magazines and books for children and teenagers.

Hunkydory Publishing’s site is once again built on the Squarespace platform. Squarespace is similar to WordPress, but is a hosted solution so you don’t have to worry about setting up your own hosting, or constantly installing updates to the software and plugins. Our clients love it, because it’s easy for them to log in and make changes or post news stories.

Transport Planning Associates website by Flying Leaf

As part of our biggest ever rebranding project we designed and built the new www.transportplanningassociates.co.uk website for Transport Planning Associates – formerly Pinnacle Transportation.

The site – and new branding – went live on April 1st. We’ve opted to use the Squarespace platform once again because it provides a great CMS for the client to upload news stories and picture galleries.

It was great to work with the Transport Planning Associates team and we’re really pleased with the results – particularly the lightweight javascript carousel on the TPA homepage which was based on the 2kb Crossfader by Brandspankingnew. It took quite a while to get Internet Explorer 6 to play nice, but we got there in the end.

We’re proud to announce that the second Flying Leaf-designed website is now live.

The new Playcast Media website as part of a branding revitalisation that also included printed promotional material. Both the website and the printed material include illustration and copywriting by Flying Leaf.

We’re really excited to be working with Playcast Media, which is a service that sends console-quality games direct to TV set-top boxes. With Playcast plugged into their service, cable and IPTV operators can offer games on demand just like movies on demand.

The new site was built on the Squarespace platform, which provides hosting and a decent CMS, plus a decent amount of creative flexibility.

The Playcast homepage features an incredibly lightweight javascript carousel by Catch My Fame which doesn’t require the browser to load any additional javascript libraries. And unlike Flash, it plays nicely with iPhone and Blackberry.

Flying Leaf’s editorial director and media gadabout Tom Dunmore – that’s me, folks – can be seen plying his presenting trade in a video tour of B&W’s new Zeppelin mini iPod dock.

The video was commission by Bowers and Wilkins, of course; scripted and presented by Tom Dunmore for Flying Leaf, and filmed by the talented young director Matthew Watt under the watchful eye of design and branding guru Thomas Manss.

In short, it was a joint effort that fits perfectly with the Flying Leaf ethos of collaborative working. And we think the result is pretty darned fine.
